Songbird

เขียนบล็อกถึง Songbird มาหลายครั้ง (รวมถึงบน Blognone ด้วย) แต่โดยรวมแล้ว ผมคิดว่า Songbird ยังไม่อยู่ในสถานะที่สมบูรณ์พอสำหรับการใช้งานจริงเท่าไร (พวก Banshee/Rhythmbox ยังดีกว่าเสียอีก)

ช่วงหลังๆ อัตราการพัฒนาของ Songbird เร็วขึ้นมาก คาดว่าคงเป็นเพราะ infrastructure ระดับล่างๆ เริ่มลงตัวแล้ว แถมล่าสุดมีเหตุอันควรที่ผมควรกลับมาใช้ Songbird เสียที เพราะใน Songbird 1.8b2 เป็นต้นไป มันรองรับ sync กับ HTC Magic แล้ว

หมายเหตุ: Nexus กับ Hero ทำได้นานแล้ว ดูรายชื่ออุปกรณ์ทั้งหมด, ตอนนี้เวอร์ชันล่าสุดขณะที่เขียนคือ 1.8b3

ช่วงนี้ผมกำลังย้ายบ้าน ไม่มีเวลาตอบคอมเมนต์มากนัก เดี๋ยวสถานการณ์ลงตัวแล้วจะมาตอบให้ ตอนนี้เอาประเด็นทางเทคนิคที่น่าสนใจจาก feed ที่อ่านไปก่อน (จริงๆ คือจดให้ตัวเองตามมาอ่านเมื่อมีเวลา)

• Songbird path to Agility Part II พูดถึงการนำวิธี Agile มาใช้ในโครงการ Songbird มีกราฟประกอบด้วย (แปลว่า Agile วัดได้นะครับ) มีภาคแรกด้วยแต่ไม่น่าสนใจเท่าภาคสอง

รู้จัก Get Satisfaction ตอนไปงาน FOWA มันคือ web 2.0 สำหรับตอบคำถามหรือไอเดียจากลูกค้า

เคยลองทำ product page ของ Blognone ไว้เล่นๆ แต่ก็ไม่ได้ใช้ (เหมือนกับ page และ group บน Facebook คือทำไว้เท่ๆ) สรุปว่าไม่ได้ลองใช้อะไร

เผอิญเมื่อวานเจอบั๊กใน Songbird เลยเข้าเว็บของ Songbird หาดูว่ามีคนไปบ่นใน forum ของ Songbird บ้างหรือเปล่า (เพราะเคยคุยกับนักพัฒนาใน forum) ปรากฎว่าลิงก์ Feedback & Ideas, Ask a Question, Report a Problem กลับชี้ไปที่ Get Satisfaction แทนทั้งหมด

ส่วน Developer Forum ย้ายไปใช้ Google Groups แทน และ Bugzilla ยังอยู่เหมือนเดิม (แต่ลึกลับหน่อย)

I'm long time Songbird fan (also got one Songbird T-Shirt). I reviewed Songbird 0.1 and Songbird 0.4 a while ago. This time, Songbird 0.7, the "beta" release, is just out and this is my quick thought.

Good

I used to be a Songbird contributor before it came out. I heard the project management somewhere and some folks there called for localization. I then provided Thai translation for an unreleased software and hoped my effort will help it to become an 'iTunes killer'.

But when proof-of-concept Songbird 0.1 was released, it was just only a proof-of-concept. Yes, it can play your music files but the user experience was still crude and not ready for real life. At that time, I think it's Ok and fitted with 'Release early, release often' dilemma.
